Our Home-School Link books contain full details of the school day, lessons, policies and curriculum areas. Please ask your class teacher if you require further information.
School day begins 9.00am (access to school from 8.40am)
Morning break 10.30-10.50am
Afternoon break - flexible, depending on activity
School day ends 3.15pm (Children collected from designated exits)
We expect children to be in school on time every day, ready to learn. Please see our Attendance and Punctuality Policy on the School Pages of this website. Each Autumn, we send home a leaflet - Every Day Counts - which highlights the importance we place on Attendance and Punctuality. Classes are rewarded for good attendance and Excellent Attender certificates are awarded termly for attendance greater than 96.5%. We use a traffic light system to visually represent good attendance.
Assemblies and collective worship
An assembly is held in each school each day led by a member of school staff. Assemblies often include visitors to the school or are themed, eg birthday assembly, 'visiting vicar', etc. On Fridays we hold a Celebration Assembly at each school at which parents and carers are warmly welcome.
Meals are cooked fresh daily at Wirksworth Infant School to the Derbyshire menu by our Catering Team, Anne-Marie Knighton and Mariea Watson. Meals are exported to Wirksworth Church of England School and served hot at both sites. Children are encouraged to try everything on the menu - there's always a good variety to choose. Lunchtimes are social occasions, and chance for learning too - it's great if you can practise independent eating skills at home, such as using a knife and fork and sitting together at a table for meals.
School lunches are currently provided free of charge to all infant children under the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) policy. We assume all children will have a school meal unless the parent/carer informs school in writing. You may send a packed lunch from home if you prefer. Special diets can be catered for (doctor's letter required), as well as vegetarian/vegan preferences.
