Sycamore class 2018 - very warm welcome!
September is here once more and we are looking forward to our new topic of 'Wirksworth'. We have been finding out all about our town and what makes Wirksworth so very special.
It's Harvest time!
What a wonderful and bright sunny day for our Harvest celebrations. The children enjoyed their Harvest service at Saint Mary's Church, they sang beautifully and their readings and prayers were lovely to hear.
We are very proud of everyone who took part - well done!
A visit to Arkwright's Mill....
We visited Arkwright's Mill in Cromford as part of our geography and history topic of Wirksworth. We had the most wonderful day, full of fun and laughter. We dressed up in period clothes and were given jobs around the factory. Some of us were scutchers - bashing the bails of cotton to make it easy for the pickers to get all the bugs and sticks out of itbeore it went to the carders to untangle it. There were also messengers, coal yard workers and house maids for Mr Clack, the manager.
We have so much fun in school and so many wonderful things going on I thought I would remind everyone that we do work very hard too!
Wear your poppy with pride........
This week the children have been learning about why we wear poppies and remember the brav e people who have fought in many wars over the years. The children made a poppy cross and took it to the Memorial Garden, where we held our own celebrations to remember the people who have died in wars.
Sycamore class was joined by Mrs Marriott and Hawthorn class, they stood very still during the playing of 'The last post'. Well done everyone.
